Rallying in S.F. against ICE raids
By
SAN FRANCISCO--Some 200 people rallied October 12 to demand an end to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that have been terrorizing immigrant communities across the country.
The Movement for an Unconditional Amnesty organized the rally as part of a national call for a moratorium on ICE raids. The demonstration was supported by a number of other groups including El Balazo Workers Defense Committee, the International Socialist Organization, various progressive church groups, ANSWER and Iraq Veterans Against the War.
Speakers at the rally addressed the inhumane treatment of immigrants by federal agents and emphasized that immigrants are workers, not criminals.
Recent attacks include an unprecedented sweep by ICE to detain immigrant workers, which included hundreds in Northern California alone, as well as attempts to push back San Francisco's status as a sanctuary city for immigrants.
